Experimental investigation of photonic crystal waveguide devices and line-defect waveguide bends

چکیده
Photonic crystal waveguide devices incorporating line-defect waveguide bends have been fabricated. In this paper we present preliminary experimental analysis of these structures. Although evidence of photonic band-gap effects are observed in the spectra, transmission efficiency was found to be extremely low due to significant up-scattering losses from the holes. In order to quantify this loss mechanism, a detailed experimental and theoretical analysis of scattering effects in regular photonic crystal waveguide devices with band gaps at visible wavelength is presented. Field profiles in line defect structures are analysed using a FDTD (finite difference time domain) method. © 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

Investigating the Properties of an Optical Waveguide Based on Photonic Crystal with Point Defect and Lattice Constant Perturbation
In this paper, a photonic crystal waveguide with point defects and lattice constant perturbations of +5%, -5% are being investigated. Firstly waveguide structures with constant and specific parameters are being studied and photonic band gap diagrams for TE/TM modes are depicted; then pulse propagation in the frequencies available in the band gap are shown. After that, effects of parameters like...
متن کاملPhotonic Crystal Nanocavities for Biosensing Applications
In this study, we have investigated photonic crystal (PhC) nanocavities for biosensing applications. The device architecture consists of a PhC waveguide with a defect line for guiding the transmission of light. Resonant nanocavities are coupled to the PhC waveguide by changing the radius of a hole adjacent to the defect line. The devices are fabricated on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers. Prel...
